I am happy to be out on the water again. I realized that my experience on land was similar to my study abroad: going to parties, chatting with locals, and spending lots of money on food and drinks. I enjoyed this lifestyle in Cape Verde, but it didn’t fulfill as it used to do.
Now I crave a different kind of journey. One where I don’t go out just to meet locals, but also to discover new things about myself. A bit cheesy, I know, but hey it’s true. I love to do this by simply observing other people their ways, instead of involving myself as a tourist. For example, during our stay in Mindelo, locals were celebrating Carnaval. The rhythm of the drums and the music they created had such a tribal sound that I was covered in goosebumps, only by watching them move.
Now, I long for the steadiness of the flowing waves and the consistent sound of the wind blowing past my ear. Luckily I am about to enter an ocean full of this. Side note to myself: for my future travels keep surrounding myself with nature. It is what makes me happy.
