A dark room
no lights needed.
The bright hums,
in the corner of emptiness.
Walls form from blood and skin,
cell membrane shimmer,
eyes glistering in their own reflection.
Movement stirs,
the self wonders,
observing the body it inhabits.
Who am I?
A thought wave drifts by.
“I am you, and you are I –
isn’t it obvious?”
The body shakes through years
pain, joy, love, anger, kindness.
I am not my home,
not my looks,
not my character,
not even my name.
I am absolute –
but what is absolute?
Looking, searching, questioning,
again the thought wave returns.
“I am you, and you are I –
isn’t it obvious?”
Light seeps beyond the membrane walls.
The shaking quiets.
Because now,
you and I understand.
I am you and you are I.
I am my – self.
I split my flesh,
to let this light of mine,
shine.
Epilogue:
The body sheds,
leaving the self –
A light fierce and bright.
Back in the dark emptiness,
recharged by life,
ready to breathe again.
