A love story II

I recently experienced an intense love story with an inspiring and beautiful soul. We met in Cusco, Peru, for two days, and after that, we decided to take a leap and spend a week together in Guatemala. It was mind-blowing. Meeting someone who can meet you where you are at mentally, emotionally, and spiritually, feels like this bright and colorful rainbow forming only for you.

We were blessed with seven beautiful days. Days filled with love for ourselves and each other. With an openness that allowed us complete freedom, a deeper understanding of life and how we move through it, with light, laughter, and goofiness, a balance that felt grounded and healthy, and eye-opening conversations that unlocked knowledge we’d been carrying within ourselves but hadn’t yet been able to unlock before.

He inspired me on so many levels from sharing his knowledge of the indigenous Maori people of New Zealand, to me recognizing my own love reflected in his presence. I recall one moment when I shared something vulnerable, and him being Kiwi, his response was to greet me with “the hongi”, the traditional Maori greeting where two people connect their foreheads and noses to share a breath of life. I can tell you that after that, my tears were floooowing. So beautiful and wholesome. I have definitely been intrigued to learn more about the Maori culture and customs of New Zealand.

At the end of our beautiful week, I can’t fully describe how refreshing it felt to say goodbye, allowing each of us to be fully free. Mentally, emotionally, and spiritually, even though it felt bitter sweet. Because without containing what we shared through loyalty or commitment, we allow our love to truly flow freely and I realized that this love is so much stronger when it’s not confined by borders meant to offer a sense of security and peace of mind.

It took me a moment to adjust again. I can easily fall into that trap of wanting to hold onto what we experienced to maintain that intense feeling of joy.

But when that happened I simply reminded myself: everything I felt, the joy, peace, calm, foundation, and endless love, it is all within me. I carry and I am these states of being. It is only Aidan who has helped me surface them again simply by him being himself. An equal holding up a mirror with a loving smile.
